Early Winter?

My post back at the end of September included a picture of the snow storm we got that day. Unfortunately or fortunately the snow didn't stick around. We have had the best (worst) November weather I can remember. This is a picture from the Water tank. It doesn't look like it's going to snow any time soon.

The Mair family came up Friday and stayed over till Saturday afternoon. It was a lot of fun. We all stayed up way to late and ate way too much food. Well, I ate too much. I can't speak for anyone else.

First Snow Day

Wow! Today we had our first day of snow at the cabin. Quite surprising for the 24th of September. I have a feeling we might be in for a long cold winter. The good thing is most of the files and mosqitoes should be gone.

The snow melted by the end of the afternoon. Kim got to hear the eery sound of snow falling off the metal roof. Things shoudl be nice for Conference weekend.

Spider Bites

Yea, this is crazy. Thursday night I was working late from home and I noticed several (six) bites that I thought were mosquito on my left foot and one on my right. I’m not quite sure when I got them. I did go swimming at the SSAFC earlier that evening with Emma. I’m not sure how a spider would be able to bite me that many times without me noticing. Anyway on Friday they itched quite badly during the day and I only made it worse by scratching aggressively the only one not covered by my shoe. By the end of the day a small blister had formed. By this time I stop scratching and started applying large quantities of Caladryl to my foot. Didn’t help much. By Saturday morning the small blister had turned into a very large yellow blister. The blister broke with the help of a sewing needle.

Another blister was forming on my pinky toe. By 9:00 Saturday night my foot was a real ugly mess. They don’t have an “Insta-Care” in Heber so John just said to go to the ER and they would take care of it. I went to the ER and had to wait nearly two hours before anyone could look at it. The video Ipod really came in handy but didn’t help much because; well I tend to worry more than the average person and couldn’t focus on it. The Doctor was concerned. It was bad. Both the big bites (lesions) had to be cleaned out. I had already started to develop Necrosis (dead skin) and it had to be scraped off. I discovered a new level of pain. After that the needle for the IV of antibiotics didn’t hurt very much. I get to go back for 3 more day of antibiotics plus as a bonus I get to keep the IV in my hand for the entire time. I glad it was me and not one of the kids.

Baby Birds

We noticed about the first of May that a momma bird had build a nest complete with eggs in the play fort out behind the cabin. I wasn't sure how long it would take for baby birds to grow up so I considered just removing the nest so the kids could continue to use the play fort. I didn't have the heart to tear it out and throw it away so we just decided to watch them grow up. We were very considerate of the nest and would closely watch the mother bird to make sure we were not agitating her to much. I did manage to get a picture of here sitting on the nest. She flew away moments after I took this picture. My original concern was that we would be waiting around all summer for these baby birds to grow up. I figured to keep the momma bird happy we would have to stay away. Over the course of a month or so the momma bird got used to us being around the play fort. The kids loved watching her wait with a worm in her beak on the dirt hill while they played. As soon as we would leave she would fly right in.
To make a long story short the birds grew up a lot faster than I thought they would. I took this picture on Wednesday, June 6th. By Saturday the birds were gone.

Memorial Day Weekend

Ha! I'm the first to post on the activities of Memorial Day weekend. Happy Birthday Dad!!! What a fun weekend, Thanks to everybody that was able to come out it sure was a blast. As with all our get-togethers at the cabin I managed to eat way to much and stay up way to late ever night. I can vouch for anybody else but I always manage to do this with every cabin "party". The new grill for the fire pit worked out perfect. I can see that getting some good use during future parties.

If anybody still has questions on how to get to the water tank Bently will be giving guided tours all summer long. All you need to do is drive the Yerf-Dog and he will show you how to get there. Here is a picture of our first trip.

Pictures of the weekend are up for viewing on ackerson.org

What are we doing?

The hardest part about starting a blog is coming up with a good title and a good URL. I have been sitting here for way too long trying to think up something good.

I'll keep the formalities brief. As you might all know we "live" at the cabin now. The process of buying a house in Heber has turned out to be a lot more expensive than we imagined. The idea now is to wait till the housing crash hits Heber and we can have our choice of any house. So far I like this one the best.

I got a lot more pictures of what we did today to post later
Bye
